-----Hojicha-----
Hojicha (roasted green tea) is a traditional Japanese tea made by roasting tea leaves. The tea leaves are heated at high temperatures until they are charred, causing components such as tannins and caffeine in the leaves to change, and resulting in a unique, smoky flavor and aroma . The charring process reduces the bitterness and increases sweetness, making Hojicha perfect for those who enjoy a more mellow flavor  than green tea.

I’m a cat-lover from Japan living in the U.S., surrounded by cats and cat themed goods. I had been selling cute cat items found in Japan as well as cat merchandise I designed myself, but eventually grew a desire to share more Japanese items with those living in the U.S. I also love tea, and thus came up with the idea to introduce the teas from my homeland to more people.

Tea is made in many regions in Japan, but the tea made in Shizuoka is the most famous both historically and traditionally. Shizuoka is located at the foot of Mt. Fuji, one of the places that most likely comes to mind when thinking of Japan. I met and got acquainted with a tea shop in Shizuoka that told me about their delicious flavored teas based on Japanese teas. After ordering various samples and going through countless tastings, I decided on a selection of hojicha, flavored hojicha, and flavored green teas.

Hojicha is a roasted green tea that I like because of how fragrant it is, but it is still relatively unknown in the U.S. I wanted more people to discover the aroma and taste of this tea. I thought that perhaps people in the U.S., a country with a great appreciation for coffee, might enjoy the fragrant aroma of roasted tea.

I drew illustrations of cats (my favorite subject) inspired by each flavor and aroma of the hojicha, flavored hojicha, and flavored green teas from Shizuoka, and packaged everything up to create a line of Nyankopaws teas.

The newest addition to the Nyankopaws lineup of cute cat goods from Japan and those designed by me, is a series of teas from Shizuoka, Japan. How about relaxing with a cup of Japanese tea in a very cute cat themed package while enjoying the company of the cats in your home?
